01
The Mesolcina is a transit valley, and that changes everything. Half of Europe drives over it every day heading for the San Bernardino, and almost nobody stops — not out of indifference, but because they have no idea there is anything down here. Since 2013 the Bellinzona–Mesocco railway has carried no passengers: whoever arrives, arrives by car, and decides where to stop with a phone in hand.
Seven Graubünden municipalities line up along the river, from San Vittore to Mesocco, in a valley running from 260 metres on the plain to over three thousand at the summits. The language is Italian, in a canton that thinks in German: anyone selling beyond the valley runs into that every day.
There are three different audiences here: people who live in the valley and search nearby, people driving down from Chur or Zurich once a year, and people coming up from Bellinzona because things cost less here. Three ways of searching, three answers a website has to be able to give.
02
What a website that works actually means here
In a valley people drive through, a website is not a brochure: it is the only thing that makes you exist for someone who did not know you were there. Anyone searching «where to eat Mesolcina» at six in the evening decides in two minutes, and picks between the ones with current opening hours, real photographs and a number you can tap.
And there is a second audience that always gets forgotten: companies from outside looking for a supplier here because it costs less than Bellinzona or Chur. Those do not arrive through word of mouth. They arrive through a search.
03 — In practice, here
German is not a flourish
The rest of Graubünden searches in German, and searches for «Misox», not «Mesolcina». A German version opens up a catchment you cannot see from inside the valley.
You are on a motorway, not a high street
People driving past do not see you: they find you on the map. A well-kept Google profile, an exact address, the motorway exit written plainly.
The season matters
Half the businesses here work differently in winter and summer. The site has to change hours and offer without anyone having to call us.
