Cama lies on the valley floor about seventeen kilometres from Bellinzona, and is known above all for two things: its cluster of grotti and its mountain lakes, Cama and Sambrog. It is a starting point for walkers, with trails and huts all around, and there are the ruins of Norantola castle, documented since 1248.
The station of the old Bellinzona–Mesocco line still stands here and serves tourist traffic: one of the few stretches of that railway that has not stopped entirely.
Anyone working in Cama lives off an audience that decides the evening before or the same morning: a day out, lunch, a walk. They do not book weeks ahead, but they want to know straight away whether you are open.

The question is always the same: «are you open today?»
For a grotto, a farm restaurant or a walking-related business, ninety per cent of searches ask one thing: open or closed, and until when. If the answer is not there in three seconds, that table goes somewhere else — and does not come back to check later.
The second question is how to get there. Addresses are not enough here: it takes the point on the map, where to park, and how far you walk from the car. Those three lines decide a day out.
